Performed as a part of the GIPCA event "Republic" held at Cape Town City Hall in 2011. Using rolls of elastic wrapped around myself and the  marble pillars supporting the ornate staircase, I physically blocked off the main entrance and forced the guests to detour and reach the first floor by the far less grand linoleum service staircase.

The marble and stone floors, and the high ceilings generated the most beautiful acoustics to which I sang a haunting melody providing an eerie background soundtrack which filtered through the building. Testing the limits of the elastic with my body-weight, I explored the tensions in giving and receiving, trusting and yielding, moving and resting.
